Principal’s Message

Hello Virgil Families,

My name is Andrew Conroy, and I am excited to be your new principal. I have been an educator in LAUSD for over 20 years and I have served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal.   I have also been part of the LAUSD Instructional Team for the past two years and served as a mentor for new principals.  I am someone that believes in creating a strong team to best serve our students.  We all have unique talents and abilities and collectively we can connect and motivate our students to be the best versions of themselves. I will continue to create such a team at Virgil so that we can build on what we are doing well and improve where necessary so that we can become an even higher performing school.  We need to always be setting goals with our students even if they may seem impossible so that we help them to become the best version of themselves.

I have been fortunate enough to work with students from 6th grade through 12th grade my entire career and have seen students exceed their expectations, graduate high school, and choose the 4-year university of their dreams.  It is critical that we start setting these high expectations early in 6th grade and do everything in our power to help our students grow and flourish at the middle school level to thrive in high school and beyond.

It will be my goal to continually be open to new ideas and build on great ones to meet the needs of our students, parents, and staff. I will be meeting with our entire community over the next few months to listen, get to know our community, and set a course that will lead us towards even higher student achievement, culture, and parent involvement and communication.

I am inspired by my students and know the tremendous responsibility that this entails. Our parents have entrusted us with their greatest gift. I am more than 100% committed to bringing out our students best and creating a variety of opportunities for each of them that will start them on their path which will lead to a life that surpasses what they dreamed.

Go Tigers!

Respectfully Yours,

Andrew Conroy
